Union Square Spring in Bloom has become an anticipated San Francisco event
Spring has sprung in San Francisco, and nowhere is the season’s natural splendor more vibrantly on display than at The Westin St. Francis. The only hotel located directly on Union Square, this landmark property has been a symbol of timeless grandeur since 1904, seamlessly blending turn-of-the-century architecture with modern luxury. And this spring, it’s more captivating than ever.
As part of Union Square in Bloom, an annual celebration curated by the Union Square Alliance, the hotel icon, known for its blend of historic grandeur and contemporary style, has transformed into a breathtaking floral oasis. Guests are treated to a dazzling array of immersive experiences that capture the very essence of spring. In the Tower Lobby, florist Edgar Martinez of Flowers by Edgar has created a lush and whimsical installation of silk cherry blossoms—a lively, whimsical welcome for hotel guests and visitors alike.

For those who want to stay surrounded by the season’s beauty, the hotel’s ‘Suite in Bloom’ is an experience all its own, imagined right out of a fairytale. Inside the Landmark Building, Martinez has designed a private floral wonderland where thousands of silk flowers spill from the ceilings and wind across the walls. Trees of soft pink cherry blossoms, glowing chandeliers, and cozy garden seating create the feeling of stepping into a storybook. The suite, which can sleep up to four, includes a king bed, a separate parlor with a queen bed, and the option to add a connecting room. It’s available through July 31, with rates starting at $849, and includes a bottle of sparkling rosé and floral macarons to complete the picture.

If a full suite sounds too grand, the ‘Room in Bloom’ package offers a quieter nod to the season: a guest room decorated with fresh flowers and the soft scent of a spring garden, welcoming guests with a hand-selected bouquet. Rates start at $259.
The spring celebration spills over into the lobby’s Café Rito, where a limited-time menu highlights floral flavors. Guests can sip a lavender vanilla latte and sample seasonal pastries like rose water raspberry macarons, rich chocolate tarts, and fresh berry treats—a sweet finish to a day spent wandering Union Square’s blossoming streets.
The Westin St. Francis celebrates Union Square in Bloom like no other hotel
Beyond the blooms within its walls, The Westin St. Francis offers prime access to the broader festivities of Union Square in Bloom. As San Francisco shakes off its winter gray and steps into the light, The Westin St. Francis makes it easy to savor every bright, beautiful moment—right at the heart of the action.
Now in its third year, Union Square in Bloom was created out of a desire to rekindle the energy and beauty of downtown San Francisco. Originally launched as a way to reimagine the city’s most beloved gathering place after the pandemic’s quieter seasons, this initiative paints Union Square with vivid floral displays, whimsical art installations, and festive experiences designed to welcome locals and visitors alike back to the heart of the city. Today, it has blossomed into a hallmark of springtime in San Francisco, inviting all to stroll, savor, and celebrate under a canopy of blooms.
