While staying at The Ritz Carlton, Rancho Mirage, a luxury resort in the Greater Palm Springs area, we had the opportunity to take a snazzy 2025 Porsche Macan EV for a test drive.

After a delicious breakfast at The Regency Club, we were handed the key fob to a shiny Copper Ruby metallic colored Porsche Macan. We learned that one of the best roads to take a car for a drive is Highway 74, also known as ‘Palms-to-Pines.’ This scenic byway climbs up to the San Bernardino National Forest offering dramatic desert switchback turns and high-mountain vistas.

Driving Excellence

What we noticed is this electric drivetrain is whisper-quiet and the sound insulation provides a luxury feel. The Macan EV delivers immediate acceleration from its electric motor with a powerful, seamless push with no lag, true to Porsche’s performance engineering.

This enhanced Porsche offers instant torque vectoring, distributing torque optimally, while we took the corners smoothly. Adaptive air suspension is standard on all models to provide performance that is balanced and comfortable. Those looking for additional maneuverability can opt for the optional rear-axle steering at low speeds and improved stability at high speeds.

Here are some key aspects of the 2025 Macan EV:

Advanced EV Battery

All Macan EVs are powered by a 800-volt, 95 kWh lithium-ion battery. This enables a 10% to 80% charge in less than 25 minutes when charged at a DC fast charge up to 270 kW.

Impressive Driving Range

Depending on the model, the Macan EV offers an estimated range between 288 to 315 miles on a single charge, balancing performance with practicality. This Macan’s 300 KW/402 hp AC Permanent Synchronous Motor and 100kWh performance battery went from 0-60 mph in about 5 seconds.

Enhanced Driving Dynamics

Standard comfort seats offer 8-way power adjustments and heating. There is also an optional 18-way power-adjustable seats with ventilation and massage functions. We activated the responsive and intuitive Android-based Infotainment system by activating the voice control option to enhance connectivity and control. The Intelligent Navigation system includes real-time planning with integrated charging that guided us to chargers without interrupting our trip.

Driver Display

The 12.6-inch curved driver display offers a sporty appearance. There is a 10.9-inch central touchscreen, and an optional passenger-side display to co-pilot during the drive. The responsive and intuitive Android-based Infotainment system has a voice control option to enhance connectivity and control. The Intelligent Navigation system includes real-time planning with integrated charging that guide you to chargers without interrupting your trip.

Safety Features

Drivers can use the augmented reality navigation and other vital information for a safer driving experience. There is a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings for easier parking and maneuvering. Lane keeping assist helps in preventing unintentional lane departures by providing steering input by alerting the driver when the vehicle drifts out of its lane. When activated the Macan EV will also accelerate, brake and steer during low-speed traffic situations.

Diverse Powertrain Options

Those looking for additional speed, we learned that the Porsche Macan 4 delivers 402 horsepower and can reach 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Porsche also offers the Macan Turbo EV, a 630 horsepower vehicle that accelerates from 0-60 mph in about 3 seconds. It is one of the fastest electric SUVs in its class. They also have the MacanS that has 509 horsepower and can go 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.

Interior Features

Stepping into the interior cabin, we noticed how Porsche combined luxury and technology. The leather chalk seats and black accent colors added a sense of drama and excitement inside the vehicle.

We appreciated the front seat Porsche logo and high-quality interior material. Thoughtful details such as Porsche’s latest curved digital displays blend cabin luxury and modern technological experiences. We noticed how the ambient lighting adjusted based on driving conditions.

This Porsche handled and hugged the dynamic canyon curves beautifully for our comfort, as well as effortlessly adjusted to the city streets.

Front and Back Seat Comfort

The multi-zone climate control plus seating with premium finishes are designed for a dose of daily luxury. This vehicle balances fun driving agility with roomy practicality for families. It’s compact for urban driving, yet offers enough gear space for weekend adventures.

Impressive Range

With an estimated range of 300+ miles, the Macan EV is built for daily driving and weekend getaways without range anxiety. With its fast charging capability, the 800-volt battery can charge up to 80% in less than 30 minutes using a compatible 270kW DC fast charger.

Exterior Design

Stopping at Coachella Valley Vista Point before turning back to The Ritz Carlton, Rancho Mirage, we noticed the eye-catching 22′ RD Spyder design wheels painted in Neodyme. Without a bulky engine up front, the Macan’s frunk (front trunk) adds additional cargo space for sporting equipment, luggage and daily practicality.

Sustainability

This EV helps reduce your carbon footprint with zero emissions, without sacrificing Porsche performance. It’s an ideal vehicle for eco-conscious enthusiasts who enjoy how the Macan EV handles more like a sports car than an SUV.

Everything but…..

The one feature I wish this EV offered was one-pedal driving, also known as regenerative braking. I like how this feature on other EVs (Tesla, Chevy Bolt and and Cadillac Lyriq) allows drivers to decelerate using only the accelerator pedal, not only does this slow a vehicle down, it saves on brake wear and improves brake longevity.

Porsche Palm Springs collaborates with The Ritz Carlton, Rancho Mirage to bring their vehicles up to the luxury desert resort for guests to take for a test drive and sightseeing spin.
