Sitting up on the rooftop of Hotel Mousai Cancun with an icy margarita is a wonderful way to start a Mexico vacation. The one-year new boutique resort overlooks Isla Mujeres and six different shades of blue Caribbean Sea.

It’s an adult-only property that appeals to honeymoon couples, babymooners and those seeking a romantic getaway.

This luxury resort offers 88 spacious oceanfront suites, international dining venues, quiet swimming pools, and an array of fitness and wellness programs.

Guests will appreciate the three different gourmet culinary options at the resort. The signature restaurant NOI is a colorful Italian restaurant off of the lobby. The talented chefs prepare an array of Italian favorites such as savory lasagna, mushroom filled ravioli, pizza and grilled proteins. Meals are paired with wines from Chile or cocktails of a guest’s choice.

Go up to the top for one of the most picturesque view spots for light bites, cocktails and stargazing. The Rooftop offers a sparkling infinity swimming pool overlooking the sea, Isla Mujeres and Cancun below.

Lunch is ideal at the attentive Beach Pool Bar under shaded umbrellas and comfortable lounge chairs. Sip a cocktail with freshly prepared guacamole and chips.

Later in the early evening, the Lobby Bar has live music at the grand piano and creative mixology beverages to enjoy with the soothing and relaxing ambiance.

The beauty of this location is that it is much quieter than Cancun’s popular Hotel Zone. Since Hotel Mousai is part of the TAFER Group, guests have privileges to use the neighboring Garza Blanca Cancun Resort for dining, amenities, the spa, and 7 different heated swimming pools. There is an adult-only pool, a kid-friendly waterpark pool and a hammock pool to swing above the water.

Those with the all-inclusive plan will enjoy venturing over to Garza Blanca Cancun to dine at one of their on-site restaurants. Blanca Blue serves innovative Mexican dishes in a tranquil oceanfront setting. Guests enjoy Hiroshi for its excellent Japanese Fusion fare. Go up to The Rooftop to DAO for contemporary Chinese cuisine with a flair. This is a favorite spot at sunset for drinks and dinner. Those seeking specialty dry-aged beef will enjoy a meal at the modern Bocados Steak House.

There is also a Gourmet Hall providing a wide variety of Mexican and International items in a buffet-style setting. Dine indoors or outside overlooking the TierraLuna Gardens.

Guests gather at TierraLuna Gardens at 8 am to join Dimitri or Mariana for a 50-minute stretch, meditation and yoga class. It’s a wonderful way to start off the day.

On certain days at 9:30 am, a Garza Blanca activity guide leads guests on a walk to El Meco, a historic Mayan archeological site. The 2.7 mile roundtrip walk is on paved roads while touring some of the Isla Mujeres District area of Cancun.

El Meco is said to be around 600 AD, and was a maritime trade hub tied to Chichén Itzá and Mayapán. It was also a pilgrimage getaway to Isla Mujeres across the water. Mayan people transported their women to this island to protect them.

The centerpiece is a well preserved ‘El Castillo’ pyramid. It’s the tallest Maya structure on Quintana Roo’s eastern coast. Its front faces the sea, likely for ceremonial purposes and to alert and protect from intruders.

This is a hidden gem and much quieter and less touristy ruin site. Sometimes there are more iguanas basking in the sun, then visitors.

The complex includes plazas, altars, shrines, colonnaded buildings, and ritual spaces. Recently the attraction underwent restoration with new pathways, a walking bridge over the street, signage and visitor facilities. It’s open from 8 am to 4:30 pm. There is parking, restrooms, a rest area, and wheelchair-accessible paths to the archaeological sites.

Also at Garza Blanca is Spa Imagine, a wellness sanctuary for those seeking an escape from the sun and for some rest and relaxation. There are 16 treatment rooms for relaxing massages or advanced treatments such as HydraFacial and Binary Premium electro-stimulation.

Guests can use the multi-hydrotherapy circuit to discover the healing benefits of hot and cold treatments. Not only does a hot sauna, cold plunge pool, steam room and hot whirlpools improve circulation, this type of aqua therapy stimulate blood flow to speed up injury recovery, as well as ease aches and pains.

Spa attendants guide you through each therapy, suggesting ideal times for maximum results.

November is the beginning of near perfect weather in Cancun. The highs are in the mid-80s and lows in the low 70s. It’s ideal to snorkel or take a boat ride to Isla Mujeres, as water visibility is crystal clear.

During the first days of November, Day of the Dead or Dia de Los Muertos celebrations include offerings, sugar skulls, specialty food items and decorative altars to guide departed spirits home to loved ones.

December through April is the dry season with lower humidity, clear water and lot’s of sunshine. For an adult-only getaway, Hotel Mosai Cancun is one of my favorites. For a family getaway, Garza Blanca Cancun offers something for every family member. Learn how kids stay and eat for free.
